HUH Daisy Awards
Shining a Bright Light on Extraordinary
Message from the CNO
Howard University Hospital is proud to introduce the DAISY Awards, an international program that rewards and celebrates the skillful and compassionate care that nurses provide each day. The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after his death from complications of the auto-immune disease, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). DAISY serves as an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system. Mr. Barnes' family appreciated the care and compassion shown to him during his hospitalization, that they felt so compelled to say "thank you" to nurses in a very public and spirited way. - Dr. India Medley, HUH Chief Nursing Officer
