1. What Are The DAISY Awards?

The DAISY Awards are a meaningful, spirit stirring, recognition program that honors and recognizes exceptional nurses in healthcare facilities across the nation.

2. Why Were The DAISY Awards Created?

The DAISY Awards were established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died in 1999. After his death, the family felt compelled to create an award that said, “Thank you!" to extraordinary nurses for their compassion and care in a very personal way.

3. What Does DAISY Stand For?

The term "DAISY" is an acronym that derives from the phrase Diseases Attacking the Immune System. 

4. Who Is Eligible To Be Nominated?

All licensed HUH nurses who demonstrate extraordinary, compassionate care are eligible to be nominated to receive a DAISY Award.

5. Where Is It Celebrated?

The DAISY Awards are celebrated in over 5,000 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing, across 31 countries.

6. How Can I Nominate Someone?

If you are a patient, family member, physician, fellow nurse or staff member, you are allowed to nominate a deserving nurse by completing an HUH DAISY Awards Online Nomination Form. Letters and emails to the DAISY Awards Committee will also be considered.

7. Who Chooses The Winner?

The Howard University Hospital DAISY Awards Committee will select each winner.

8. Who Can Be Apart Of The Celebration?

Any HUH leadership, directors, managers, supervisors, administration, peers, or team members as well as the nominee may be a part of the celebration.

9. When Will The Winner Be Announced?

The Howard University Hospital DAISY Awards winner will be announced on Wednesday, May 11, during Nurses Week 2022.

10. How Often Is the DAISY Award Celebrated?

The Howard University Hospital DAISY Awards is celebrated every three months totaling four times a year.
